English Section
The English Section's meetings, which are normally conducted in Dutch, take place directly after the full network meeting and buffet meal. The chair runs the meeting, while the secretary is responsible for the agenda and minutes.
The section's primary objective is to exchange information and optimise the quality of our translating and interpreting work. The meetings generally include discussions of the following:
- New dictionaries and other useful publications.
- Discussions of neologisms and translation and other linguistic issues and problems.
- A subject of current interest. Recent topics have included presentations on technical and legal translations, favourite dictionaries and reference works, information on useful software and websites, tips for using MS Word more effectively etc.
The English section has had an active e-mail circle since September 1997. This is used to distribute the agenda for and minutes of meetings and also serves as a forum where members can ask questions.
The network also publishes a Who's Who of its members. As well as listing the subjects in which members specialise, the Who's Who also details specialised sources of information to which members may have access, either privately or through their work.
All members are expected to play a part in ensuring the success of the section's activities and in putting the network's principle of contributing and benefiting into practice.
